I used to have a friend who said that I was the most courageous person he knew and that he looked up to me because of my courage. I have been thinking a lot about what it means to have courage and what courage is exactly.
Wikipedia defines courage as: the ability and willingness to confront fear, pain, danger, uncertainty, or intimidation. Physical Courage is courage in the face of physical pain, hardship, death, or threat of death, while moral courage is the ability to act rightly in the face of popular opposition, shame, scandal, or discouragement.
I think courage is:
Getting up when I’d rather sleep in
doing things at work that scare me
dealing with people who are unkind to me
picking myself up every time I fall
going to church even though I feel so alone there, just because I know it’s where I should be.
changing the way I parent even though it took years of perseverance to do it.
